Viv Shearsby

Based in Christchurch, Viv has been working in early childhood education for almost 30 years. She has significant experience as an educator (of children and adults) and as a leader in early childhood education. Much of her work in the last 15 years has been in early childhood teacher education and facilitating professional learning and development with professional leaders and teachers across Aotearoa/New Zealand. Viv’s professional practice focuses on aspects of governance, management, leadership and mentoring. During the last ten years Viv has engaged increasingly in investigating approaches to early childhood leadership and mentoring. She has further specific interests in supporting the establishment of professional communities of practice and education environments for learning including a focus interest in supporting social competence. Viv is passionate about life long professional learning (her own and that of others).

Internal Evaluation & Strategic Development -  

This session aims to showcase and explain the developments heralded in the recently released ERO publication ’Effective Internal Evaluation for Improvement’. The workshop will support participants to make sense of the shifts required within self-review practices, service self- assessment, identifying directions for improvement and developing Strategic Plans. 

Workshop Three  
Title: The one stop shop - Appraisal, Registration and Certification

This workshop focuses on the expectations and requirements relating to the registration and certification of teachers and inducting and mentoring beginning teachers. The content will highlight approaches to appraisal that ensure employer responsibilities are met and introduce approaches to goal setting, harvesting evidence of practice and documenting and monitoring procedures.
